Under Armour to open their first Australian store

The major news emanating from Gold Coast’s Harbour Town expansion is the Australian opening of sports apparel brand Under Armour’s first store.

Instead of opening in the usual hotspots of Sydney and Melbourne, the Baltimore headquartered company have gone straight for the soon to be completed $20 million expansion of the outlet shopping centre.

Under Armour is one of 25 new outlets that will be added to Harbour Town’s retail offering.

Last year it was reported that Under Armour chief Kevin Plank held talks to open flagship stores in major Australian cities in a strategy that was to be rolled out over 12 months.

Under Armour products are already available via Super Retail Group’s Rebel Sports and Amart but the shift to opening their own physical stores in the country sees the company hoping to make a splash on the nearly $2 billion dollar Australian market within a few years.

Under Armour already set up an Australian subsidiary, led by William Phillips, in 2013.
