Today’s news in brief to keep you updated for Thursday night.
Rugby League: Insurance company Youi has signed a sponsorship deal with the NRL to have its brand across the front of the referees kits.
Youi replaces AAMI as the major partner of the NRL’s referees program for the next two years.
According to Mumbrella the deal is believed to be worth “several million dollars” to the league.
Australian Rules: The AFL and the AFL Players’ Association are said to be close to resolving their latest pay dispute over a new collective bargaining agreement.
The sticking point has been the players’ demand to be given a set percentage of AFL revenue, rather than an agreed cut based on revenue forecasts.
AFLPA boss Paul Marsh told Melbourne radio station SEN, “I think it would be fair to say we’re closer… we are progressing.
“There’s a lot of work to be done but we are having positive discussions and, hopefully, we can get there soon.”
Golf: The PGA of Australia’s World Super 6 tournament has added three more sponsors ahead of the event which runs from 16-19 February at Lake Karrinyup in Perth.
Cobra Puma Golf, Coca-Cola and Yenda Beer joins a large suite of sponsors in support of the new golfing format.
Commonwealth Games: Swiss watch brand Longines will be the official timekeeper of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games for all times, scores and results at the multi-sport event.
Longines has also been given “Tier One” partner status.
