In Brief: CA launches National Indoor Cricket League, Gold Coast Suns bleeding money and more AFL

Looking at more cricket and AFL news in brief.

Cricket: Cricket Australia has launched a new national competition which begins this month, the National Indoor Cricket League. It will include 10 open men’s divisions and six open women’s divisions, with up to 75 teams competing for $50,000 in prize money.

Australian Rules: The Australian Financial Review has reported that Gold Coast Suns made a loss of $2.9 million in 2016 despite getting a $19.1 million grant from the AFL for the year. Despite an uplift in sponsorship revenue, a fair contributor to the loss is a large reduction in attendance and membership income.

More Australian Rules: Port Adelaide has secured a one-year sponsorship deal from Chinese-backed developer Greaton.

And More Australian Rules: Staying in Adelaide, China Southern Airlines has signed a two-year partnership with the Adelaide Crows to promote its South Australian route as well being the club’s coach sponsor.

Sydney Swans, Port Adelaide and Melbourne also have international airline deals.
