Gold Coast, Port Adelaide clash could be played back in Australia

Gold Coast’s Metricon Stadium has reportedly been placed on standby if the AFL pulls the pin on the scheduled Port Adelaide-Gold Coast fixture in China.

Citing rising international tensions between United States and North Korea, the league may opt to revert the May 14 match the two clubs in Shanghai back to the Gold Coast.

The fixture is currently scheduled for Shanghai’s Jiangwan Sports Stadium.

“Clearly you can’t ignore the circumstances that prevail in the world today and they’re in a region that’s sensitive to China and where we will be,” Port Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas said.

“Right now, we have had no advice to suggest that the game is at risk or we shouldn’t be going.

“We’ll just keep bowling along until we’re told otherwise.”
