Former Crusty Demons motorcycling promoter  Stuart Coventry has been appointed CEO of Melbourne Renegades cricket team in the Big Bash League.

With entertainment and fan experience high on the priority list for the BBL franchises, the team has thought outside the staid cricket world fo the man to replace Geoff Miles.

Coventry, the former commercial director of the Crusty Demons said he was delighted at receiving ’such a wonderful opportunity’ as the Renegades head into the second season of the Twenty20 Big Bash League.”My primary focus will be to build the Melbourne Renegades brand and engage with our fans to ensure a successful and exciting sporting team,” Coventry said.

Coventry is the grandson of Syd Coventry, a four-time VFL premiership captain with Collingwood and the 1927 Brownlow medallist, and has a strong sports business pedigree after also working for Harness Racing Victoria. With the Renegades having lost Miles in April, Cricket Victoria’s CEO Tony Dodemaide argued that Coventry would take them to the next level.

The Renegades finished second-last in the inaugural season of the BBL.

“We’re delighted to have Stuart on board for what will be a key period in the evolution of the Melbourne Renegades,” Dodemaide said.

“Stuart’s credentials speak for themselves and he will no doubt play a key role in positioning the Renegades as a dominant force in BBL.”
