Amateur Boxing Scotland calls emergency meeting

Amateur Boxing Scotland (ABS) has called for an emergency meeting with the British Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) to demand its chairman Derek Mapp be replaced.

ABS has refused to accept BABA as its governing body amid disputes over changes to the sport that will see a decrease in voting powers for the Home Nations and an increase in powers to the BABA board.

The proposed changes, which have been approved by governing body UK Sport, have not only angered ABS and its Welsh counterparts, but have also frozen over £10 million in funding from UK Sport and Sport England, who insist on the dispute being resolved before the money is distributed.

BABA Chairman Mapp was instrumental in Team GB’s success at the 2012 London Olympics, which secured a £13.8 million fund for the 2016 Games in Rio over four years, around £3.5 million of which has already been provided.
